There are 2 styles that I do typically, when it comes to pottery. From time to time, I deviate from that and do a raku workshop or make mugs or whatever, but for the most part it's these:
One set is using the dark red Navajo clay, which I like keeping exposed in its raw state as much as possible but still keeping it foodsafe. I use a mold I made from seashells from the Indian ocean that my dad brought with him when he emigrated to Canada. They make the knobs on the bowls. There are 2 sizes: small are used for café au lait or capuccino and the larger ones are great for french onion soup, chili etc.
The other style is using calico which is grey with grit in it. I make the pieces resemble old, metal and I use a particular glaze combination that makes them look old & worn, maybe even buried!
